Rise and shine! Tomorrow, a solar eclipse will block out the sun creating a ‘ring of fire’ for much of the northern hemisphere. Unable to see it in your area? Don’t miss this rare event by tuning into the livestream.

It’s widely known that the moon influences all sorts of animals, but
does it really influence human behavior? Say, our spending habits? At least that would give me a good excuse for the current funds in my bank account… Well, the moon may not influence consumer decisions, but here are some factors that do.

Etsy Acquires Depop & Attracts New Bull

Last week: Etsy announced a definitive agreement to acquire Depop for $1.625 billion. CEO of Etsy, Josh Silverman, says he is “thrilled to be adding Depop—what we believe to be the resale home for Gen Z consumers—to the Etsy family.”

This week: Etsy attracts new bull with Atlantic Equities, anticipating strong results over the medium to long-term. The firm’s price target of $200 on Etsy reps more than 20% upside potential.

Keep On Your Creative Blinders

There’s a time and place for everything. Sometimes it’s great to look around and find inspiration in what others around us are doing. However, there comes a point when instead of inspiring us, it can actually hinder us creatively. Today, we’re going to tackle the idea of keeping blinders on in your creative work, what it means, and when you should be doing it!

Retro Marketing for a Carefree Summer

With summer in full swing, Vogue shares their favorite beauty products they’ll be shopping for this month. What makes these products their favorite? Each new product line has its own fun, light-heartedness that you’ll only see brands launch around this time of year. Our favorite? Has to be Vacation. From the brand that brought us the 90s inspired Poolside FM, Vacation is really taking us back in time with their immersive, retro-themed marketing. When it comes to  knowing your brand and creating that sweet shop aesthetic, this is a great example of what we’re talking about.

Going Green is the New ‘New Normal’

As more places continue to open, Pinterest is expecting a wider push towards greener practices from businesses, as well as expectations from consumers. And although the world came to a halt in 2020, the BBC reflects that the pandemic has had less of an effect on climate change than people had hoped.

Pinterest leads the charge in the upcoming “Greenaissance.”

Did you know? Pinterest users are 40% more likely than non-Pinners to say the environment is a personal interest, and 30% more likely than non-Pinners to act on that interest.

Etsy Sales Woes Pinned to Estimated Shipping

Etsy is fluid. From time to time, they’ll make changes to their platform that can throw you off your groove if you’re not careful. That’s why it helps to follow a tight network of Etsy sellers, coaches, blogs, and gurus. While some changes are obvious, like their recent change to search, others can be subtle. So subtle, you might notice a dip in your sales and not have the slightest clue why. Recently, Whitney from Small Shop Success reached out to us for this very reason. Whitney noticed her sales where down during her busiest season of the year. The reason? She found out that it appears Etsy is now prioritizing shops that align their shipping timelines with Etsy’s “estimated arrival” shipping timelines. You can read about this easy fix on Whitney’s blog. Remember, when Etsy makes a tweak to their platform, as Whitney put it…

“I am stoked! I went to Marmalead.com two days ago to try it out for free. I was simultaneously scouring FB for uplifting advice and stuff. So many people were raving about Marm that I decided to just get the Entreprenuer Plan and start really digging in. Yesterday, I started working on my SEO, beginning with Item 1. I was only able to complete the SEO for 3 listings total, but I figured it was a start. Last night I received an order for Item 1, the 1st item I tweaked – literally 2 hours after I fixed the listing!!!! My first sale in a while, as you can see by the snapshot. Thank you Richie Peplin and Gordon Hardy!!! You rock!!!”

Selling in Your Underwear is Overrated

Last week, we asked our readers their favorite part about selling online. The results? It’s clear you’re not sitting around at home all day selling Etsy products in your underwear. However, the majority of our readers who responded to the poll do enjoy being their own boss and working whenever they want (62%)!

You hear a lot about what we like and which Etsy products we know are trending, but we don’t ask this question enough… what do you like? This is an open-ended question, so let us know what you like, and we’ll share some of the most popular responses next week!
