How to Spookify Your Shop for an Etsy Halloween

What’s that sound? I think I can hear the howling of Thriller in the distance… Yup, Halloween is coming.

Ahh, Halloween. It’s one of those holidays on Etsy where almost anything goes. People all over the world will be piecing together their costumes and decorations by shopping online, thrifting, crafting, looking to Pinterest for inspiration, and (of course) browsing through Etsy. It’s a special holiday on Etsy where virtually any shop can thrive, with just a few simple tweaks to your listings.

Have you already started prepping? If not, we’ve got some tips you can apply to your shop right now to get ready for the lead-up to October 31st.

How to Get Your Listings Featured by Etsy

With over four million sellers on Etsy, it can be challenging to get your listings noticed by shoppers, let alone the marketing team at Etsy.

Still, a fantastic way to get noticed by MORE buyers is to get your listings featured by Etsy! All it takes is one Etsy feature to launch your shop into stardom, but how in the world do you make that happen? Well, this week on The Jam, that’s exactly what we’re going to be talking about.

The Future of Social Commerce

Batten down the hatches: Social Commerce could be the next big wave to hit eCommerce in the near future. The waters are already receding in that direction, with a tidal wave of sales for U.S. goods and services trending upward by 38.9% in 2020. And in 2021, buying and selling through social media is already trending towards a 35.8% rise or $36.62 billion.

S0, what is Social Commerce? It’s when a consumer’s shopping experience occurs directly on a social media platform. It can also include clicking links on a social network that lead to a retailer’s product page with an immediate purchase option.

Swipe up to purchase: Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest already have built-in marketplaces that offer a direct check out, making terms like “swipe up to purchase” commonplace in this growing industry. Social Commerce makes the purchasing process almost a little too easy, since buyers can purchase with a few swipes and taps on your smartphone. This makes Social Commerce an impulse buyer’s dream (or nightmare depending how you look at it)!

Social Commerce & Etsy: With the acquisition of Depop, Etsy proves that they recognize the importance of Social Commerce. By tapping into a new generation of consumers through a platform that combines elements of marketplaces and social media, Etsy is getting their feet wet with Social Commerce. But what will the future hold? Time will tell!

Featured on Etsy: The Aleishla Collection

Earlier in this newsletter: We shared some advice about how to get your listings featured by Etsy in their marketing materials. Now, we’re going to take a quick look at one of Etsy’s most recent features to draw some inspiration for your own shop. Shall we?

Etsy wants you to be successful. Period. That’s why they make a big production of showcasing their most unique shops and designs every year during the design awards. And it’s also why they frequently produce some larger features on one-of-a-kind Etsy shops. Their most recent feature, AleishlaLopez.

Metalsmith, Aleishla Lopez crafts handmade jewelry in Puerta Rico with her husband, and is a pioneer for women-owned businesses in Latin America. Her unique creations offer sentimental intrigue that customers are able to see their loved ones in, even while simply window shopping. Aleishla gives her product new dimensions by drawing inspiration from galactic space-themes, and her love for Moroccan architecture. To learn more about her designs, we encourage you to read the full Etsy feature – link below.

What can we learn from Aleishla’s feature? Etsy wants to showcase unique shops that have a captivating story. A story that offers an honest look at a seller’s craft and their works of art. First and foremost, Etsy is a marketplace for creatives to share and sell their work to a global market, and Etsy wants to convey this in their features.

If you have a story you think Etsy would be interested in, try pitching it to them.
