Rise and shine! Yesterday, Etsy calls this year the summer of “pop!” with bold, playful patterns, like squiggles, fruit prints, and checkers. But who decides that this is what’s in. Fashion trends aren’t as complicated as you might think… here’s a brief history from Everyday Health.

“Fashion trends are influenced by popular figures in culture like celebrities, musicians and other high-profile individuals. Current fashion trends are often cyclical, taking cues from decades past and reworking them to fit within modern tastes. Clothing styles that were snubbed a decade ago are now enjoying a resurgence in popularity.”

Alright Etsy, you win this one.

Etsy Stock: A Good Time to Invest?

Here’s what Seeking Alpha has to say:

  • Etsy released Q1 earnings on May 5th, 2021 and dove 14.5% due to slowing user growth and guidance for a significant revenue slowdown.
  • Investors recently became excited in Etsy again after the acquisition of Depop which targets Gen Z shoppers and the secondhand sales market in clothes, which are both growth areas.
  • Etsy continues to build customer experience features to retain as much of the pandemic-era surge in business as possible and turn those users into habitual buyers.
  • Despite the slowing user growth, Etsy had an excellent quarter by beating estimates on both the top and bottom lines.
  • Use the dip in Etsy’s stock price to initiate a position in Etsy or add to a position.

Fact Check: Reopening Brick & Mortar Means Online Sales Will Suffer

Not exactly. The team over at HubSpot recently conducted a survey, asking North American consumers, “Which best describes how you’ll shop once businesses fully reopen after COVID-19 shutdowns?” And the results are clear that online shopping will remain the popular choice. 35% of consumers stated they would continue to shop almost completely online and another 21% say they’ll do an equal mix of in-store and online shopping. On top of that, 18% of consumers stated they will primarily shop online but will shop in stores if they’re more convenient. With 74% of the average consumer doing their shopping online, what are you prepared to sell them in your Etsy shop?

The ‘Etsy of New England’ Returns

This weekend, the Boston Women’s Market will return to Somerville for its first live event since March 2020. The Market, dubbed by the Boston Globe as the ‘Etsy of New England’, will feature over 40 women-owned businesses, selling handmade and vintage items during this two day, in-person event. As events begin to resume all over the world, taking part in a craft market or vendor fair can be a fun way to get your products in the hands of consumers! While it’s true, no amount of SEO will help you during an outdoor market, having the opportunity to showcase your handmade products in person is a great way to learn which items catch the most attention, who your buyers might be, and so much more! Start by looking for a craft market in your area, or get with a group of local makers and create your own!
