Etsy Calls for Action on Sellers’ Privacy

This past weekend, Etsy reached out to US sellers to seek action against the INFROM Consumers Act proposed to congress back in March of 2020. Etsy Advocacy is asking sellers to help “stop an unvetted INFORM Act from passing in the 11th hour” that Etsy states would “require marketplaces like Etsy to collect, verify, and display sellers’ personal information (like your home address and phone number) on product listing pages.” At the time of this writing, the Etsy Advocacy website does not appear to be accepting submissions. But is there more to this story? eSeller365 asks if Etsy is “blatantly using language aimed to scare sellers into believing their personal details will be available for everyone to see online?”

Would you be comfortable sharing your personal details publicly on your Etsy listings?

Stuck in a rut? Dig your way out

Let’s talk shop. We’re halfway through 2021 and things are looking pretty good in your Etsy shop. Orders aren’t flying in – but hey, they’re steady and things could definitely be worse. So you compare your orders to last year (and even the year before) and yup, you’re selling about the same as you always have been around this time of year. You might be thinking “Hmm, it sure would be nice if sales picked up and my shop took off!” Well, it sounds to us like you’re stuck in a rut. Lucky for you, BigCommerce knows a thing or two about growing your bottom line and overcoming that plateau!

“One key difference that every brand executive should note: Amazon isn’t afraid to cast a wide net. It recognizes that growth isn’t only linear.”

How does this correlate to your Etsy shop? You too can cast a wider net like Amazon. And it starts with a little bit of market research to find out what buyers want. If your products aren’t as popular as you thought they’d be, take another look at your buyer profile and re-strategize your marketing efforts. To cast a wider net, you could consider offering a new take on the same product or by offering similar (but different) products in your Etsy shop. A good rule of thumb though, don’t stick with something that just isn’t working.
