Are you an online seller that’s confused about all the “You have to do it this way!” advice that’s out there? Well, we had the pleasure of chatting with Kara Buntin to discuss her secrets to Etsy success through a program she’s offering to Etsy sellers, available right now!
Let’s face it, there’s no easy button when it comes to running a successful Etsy shop. And if you’re looking for sound advice to help take your shop to the next level, a quick Google search is sure to give you plenty of shallow tips and checklists without really explaining “why?” Well, that’s exactly why this week we’ve invited Kara Buntin to the Jam to share her secrets that make a successful Etsy shop.
Kara’s Back Story
Kara opened her Etsy shop back in 2011 as a side-project while running a successful home-based wedding cake business. To reach those DIY brides that wouldn’t be buying cakes directly from her, she sold separate products online from her own website. Eventually, she started selling flowers, and business tutorials online before deciding to open her own Etsy shop.
With 12 years of professional experience running her own business, Kara recognized that there wasn’t a whole lot of good advice available online for Etsy sellers. And some of the advice that was out there was just flat out wrong. After gaining the experience on her own and learning how Etsy SEO and the marketplace works, she grew her Etsy business to a full-time income and stopped doing wedding cakes altogether.
Now she sells full-time and makes a living from her Etsy shop and website alone. When she’s not selling wedding supplies, Kara is passionate about helping other sellers increase their own online sales.
How can I achieve Etsy success with Kara Buntin?
Starting today and through February, Kara is offering her eShop success course to take you through a deep dive into all things selling on Etsy and eCommerce in general. What started as just a simple SEO workshop has developed into a program that goes in so many directions and covers your eCommerce bases completely. So, if you’re new to selling online or if you’re looking to revamp your shop then this course will definitely help you unluck your Etsy potential.
Using the Etsy System to Your Advantage
Something to keep in mind is that the Etsy system, while always adapting, is forever the Etsy system. What we mean is, you’re not going to be able to change the system to work to your own advantage. Rather, you have to learn and understand it. To have a successful shop, you have to make the most of the system that’s presented to you. In Kara’s workshop, you’ll truly learn to figure that system out and understand the inner workings.
“I don’t like having someone say ‘do this, do this, do this and you’re done’.”
Rather than tell you to “do this and you’re done.” Kara wants you to understand what’s going on and why. When something changes in the Etsy system (which happens more frequently than you’d think) you’ll have a greater understanding of how the overall system works. This will make adapting so much easier because you’ll be able to see what changed and how you can use it to your advantage.
How SEO is vital to your Etsy Success with Kara Buntin
Through the entire 12-week program, Kara will cover one topic each week. Get this, the first entire month is SEO. There’s so much wrong information out there when it comes to SEO and people make it seem so much harder than it really is. There really isn’t a formula, and once you have that “lightbulb” moment and understand how SEO works, then you’ll never have to worry about figuring it out again.
Know that “why”
Fundamentally, this is one of the most important things to understand. How things work behind the scenes and why you’re doing certain things (and not just following a process blindly because you’ve memorized it) is key to long term success. We’ve said it before, but Etsy changes all the time. If something changes and you understand the “why” of how that area of Esty is set up, you’re going to be fine. You’ll be able to look at that change and understand what it’s impacting, what it means to you, and how it changes the things that you already understand about Etsy. Kara’s workshop gets into the nitty-gritty of “why.”
The 80/20 Rule
If 80% of your results come from 20% of your actions, you can get rid of 80% of the things that you do and really only affect a small number of your results. By making this a priority, you can start focusing on the things that bring you results, and not things that just don’t matter.
“You can spend a lot of time doing things that just don’t matter.”
It’s important to remember that there is no “one size fits all” on Etsy. Through Kara’s program, she’ll help you figure out what you need to do for your shop in order to be successful and actually make money.

This Facebook group is for real answers with users that really want to improve their shops.
Not another online course to take on your own
If you’ve seen or bought other courses online, you may be used to simply purchasing your course, and then it’s up to you to take it online… on your own. That’s not the case with this one. Kara is active and there for you to answer any questions along the way. By making the course very hands-on and engaging, even if Kara isn’t there to answer a question right away, others in the group are quick to help.

I love Kara’s course. On Etsy, I sell dark fantasy prints and oracle/tarot/gaming cards. Needless to say, it’s a niche product line. In 2019, I only did about $39 in sales on Etsy. I signed up for her E-shop course after watching a bunch of her 5-minute shop review videos on Youtube. At the end of 2020, I went from 0 – 10 views a month to around 2000 views a month and my sales went from $39 to $9500. I applied everything that I learned in her workshop and, in some cases like SEO, I did it wrong several times. She was able to help me correct what I was doing wrong and the SEO seems to be working better. In addition, from her other suggestions, my shop looks a lot more professional and I’m doing a much better job with my mailing list (which she talks a lot about) to drive traffic to my store.
I highly recommend her course to everyone that I know that is doing online sales in Etsy.
Thank you so much for this comment, Doug! Kara is amazing and what she teaches 100% can make a difference in a seller’s shop😊
